Uganda's most visited savannah park, known for tree-climbing lions and the Kazinga Channel's dense hippo population.
Queen Elizabeth National Park spans open savannah, crater lakes and the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake Edward and Lake George and holds one of the highest hippo densities in Africa. A boat cruise along the channel is the standard way to see it, with buffalo, elephant and a wide range of waterbirds visible from the water.
The Ishasha sector in the park’s south is the more distinctive draw: a resident population of tree-climbing lions, often found resting in the branches of fig trees during the heat of the day. The park sits within reach of both Kibale and Bwindi, which makes it a natural link in a longer Ugandan itinerary.
