Meru National Park is one of Kenya’s least visited and most atmospheric parks, made famous by George and Joy Adamson and the story of Elsa the lioness. Thirteen rivers cross the park, giving it a lush, well-watered character quite unlike the dry country further north.

Doum palms line the watercourses and the vegetation ranges from open grassland to dense riverine forest. A fenced rhino sanctuary protects both black and white rhino. Because so few vehicles come here, sightings are usually shared with nobody at all, which is the real appeal of the place.
