What You Came For

Experiences

Most guests come to us with one thing in mind. Tell us which, and the rest of the journey is built around it.

The Great Migration

The Great Migration

Timed around the herds and the river crossings.

Between roughly July and October, close to two million wildebeest and zebra push north through the Serengeti towards the Mara River, and the crossings that follow are the most concentrated wildlife spectacle in Africa. From January to February the same herds are calving on the southern plains, with several hundred thousand young born inside a few weeks and predators drawn in from every direction. Which half of that cycle you see depends entirely on when you travel, and we will tell you honestly what your dates can deliver.

The Big Five

The Big Five

Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

Four of the five are found readily across the Kenyan and Tanzanian circuits. Rhino is the one that shapes an itinerary: Lake Nakuru and the Laikipia conservancies give you the strongest chance in Kenya, and the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Leopard asks for patience and a guide who knows which riverine trees to check. We will build the route around whichever of the five matters most to you, and be straight with you about the odds.

Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla Trekking

An hour with a mountain gorilla family in Bwindi.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest holds close to half the mountain gorillas left in the world, split across habituated family groups. The trek to reach them is genuinely demanding, sometimes several hours up steep, tangled ground, and the hour you are permitted once you find them is strictly kept. Permits are limited and must be secured months ahead, which is the single most important thing to know when planning a Ugandan trip.

Honeymoons

Honeymoons

Fewer moves, quieter camps, more time to do nothing.

A honeymoon safari is usually the opposite of a first safari: fewer parks, longer stays, and camps chosen for seclusion rather than convenience. We tend to pair three or four unhurried nights in one reserve with a stretch on the coast at Diani or Zanzibar, so the trip ends slowly rather than at an airport at dawn. Private dinners, sundowners away from other vehicles and late breakfasts are all easily arranged.

Family Safaris

Family Safaris

Shorter drives, flexible mealtimes, lodges that mean it.

Travelling with children changes the shape of a safari rather than ruling anything out. We shorten game drives, build in pool time through the heat of the day, and use lodges that genuinely welcome younger guests rather than merely permitting them. Amboseli and Lake Nakuru work particularly well for a first family trip: the drives are short, the game is visible and the transfers are manageable.

Photographic Safaris

Photographic Safaris

Built around light, not around a schedule.

A photographic trip is planned backwards from the light. That means being in position before sunrise rather than after breakfast, staying with a sighting for an hour when it is working, and a vehicle you can brace against with an open roof and no other guests to work around. We keep the group size to your party alone and pair you with guides who understand why you want to wait.

Beach & Bush

Beach & Bush

A safari that finishes in the Indian Ocean.

The most common way to close an East African trip is on the coast. From Kenya that means Diani or Lamu, a short flight from Nairobi; from Tanzania it means Zanzibar, reachable directly from the Serengeti. Three or four nights is usually right: enough to rest properly after early starts and long drives, without the trip losing its shape.
