Tsavo West is markedly different from its eastern neighbour: hillier, greener and more densely vegetated, with volcanic cones and old lava flows shaping the landscape. The scenery alone justifies the visit, particularly the views across the Chyulu Hills.
Mzima Springs is the highlight, where some fifty million gallons of water surface daily through porous volcanic rock. An underwater viewing chamber lets you watch hippo and crocodile below the surface. The park also holds a fenced rhino sanctuary at Ngulia, and the game viewing rewards patience rather than delivering constant sightings.
