High montane forest and moorland, where floodlit waterhole lodges bring the night to you.
The Aberdare range rises steeply from the Central Highlands into montane forest, bamboo and open moorland, with waterfalls cutting through the slopes. It is cool, often misty country, entirely different in feel from the savannah parks.
The classic way to experience it is from one of the tree lodges built over a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, where you watch from a viewing deck as elephant, buffalo and, with luck, the elusive bongo or a black rhino come in through the night. Game viewing is quieter and more patient here than on the plains, and all the better for it.
