Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park is among the most rewarding short stops in Kenya, and one of the few places where both black and white rhino are seen with real consistency. The park encloses an alkaline soda lake fringed by yellow-barked acacia forest, and its compact size means a great deal can be covered in a single day.

Beyond the rhino, the park is home to the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, large buffalo herds, and a resident lion population that is frequently found in the acacia woodland. Leopard are present and occasionally seen along the escarpment road. Flamingo numbers rise and fall with the water level and are no longer as reliable as they once were, though the birdlife overall remains exceptional, with over 450 recorded species.

Its position makes Lake Nakuru a natural link in a longer journey, sitting comfortably between the Maasai Mara and the northern reserves. Most guests spend one or two nights here as part of a wider circuit rather than visiting in isolation.
