Kibale National Park protects a stretch of tropical forest holding thirteen primate species, more than anywhere else in East Africa, with chimpanzee as the headline draw. Tracking is considerably less strenuous than gorilla trekking in Bwindi, following established forest trails rather than cutting through undergrowth, and habituated groups are found with good reliability.

Alongside chimpanzee, the park holds red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey and l’Hoest’s monkey among others. The neighbouring Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, run by the local community, adds strong birdlife to a Kibale stop.
