Trip Overview
A southern Kenya circuit built around two contrasting parks: Amboseli, with its large elephant herds beneath Kilimanjaro, and Tsavo West, a wilder volcanic landscape of lava flows, springs and open bush. The route runs conveniently between Nairobi and the coast.
What you're likely to see
Wildlife is wild and nothing is guaranteed, but these are the species this route is built around.
The Route
The Detail
Everything below is set out plainly so there are no surprises when you receive your quotation.

Amboseli
You'll leave Nairobi mid-morning, heading south on the Namanga road before turning off toward Amboseli National Park, a drive of around four to five hours depending on the border traffic at Namanga. The landscape opens into dry acacia scrub and volcanic soils as you approach the park gate, with Kilimanjaro visible on clear days once you cross into Amboseli itself.
After checking in at Kibo Safari Camp, you'll head out on an afternoon game drive through the swamps and dry lake bed that define this park. Amboseli's elephant herds are its main draw, and you'll likely see family groups moving between the papyrus swamps as the light softens toward evening, with Kilimanjaro's snowcap catching the last sun if the cloud cover lifts.

Amboseli
You'll set out early for a morning game drive while the air is still cool, heading toward the Enkongo Narok and Olokenya swamps where elephant, buffalo and hippo gather to feed on the reeds. Amboseli is known for producing some of Africa's largest tuskers, and your guide will track herds across the open plains where Kilimanjaro forms a constant backdrop. You'll return to camp for a late breakfast and a break through the heat of the day.
In the afternoon you'll drive out again, this time toward Observation Hill, one of the few points in the park you can leave the vehicle, giving a wide view over the swamps below. Look out for giraffe, zebra and wildebeest on the drier ground, along with the maribou storks and pelicans that frequent the shallower pans. You'll head back to Kibo Safari Camp as the sun drops behind the mountain.

Tsavo West
After an early breakfast you'll leave Amboseli and drive toward Tsavo West National Park, a route of roughly four hours that passes through the Chyulu Hills, a young volcanic range of grass-covered cones. The terrain changes noticeably as you enter Tsavo West, with black lava flows, thicker bush and rocky outcrops replacing Amboseli's open swampland.
Once you've checked in at Kilaguni Serena, set with views over a waterhole toward the Chyulu Hills, you'll head out on an afternoon game drive that usually includes a stop at Mzima Springs. Here clear water bubbles up through the lava rock into pools where hippo and crocodile can often be watched from a partly submerged viewing chamber. The drive back takes in Tsavo West's more rugged wildlife, including buffalo, eland and the red-dust elephants typical of this park.

Tsavo West
You'll take a final early morning game drive through Tsavo West before the return journey, covering ground around the Roaring Rocks and the open plains near Kilaguni, where lion and cheetah are sometimes spotted moving through the long grass. This is also a good stretch for spotting the park's varied birdlife, from hornbills to secretary birds working the roadside scrub.
After breakfast back at the lodge, you'll begin the drive to Nairobi, a journey of around five to six hours depending on stops. The route retraces the Mombasa road through Voi and Mtito Andei, giving a last look at Tsavo's volcanic hills before the landscape shifts back to Nairobi's outskirts, where your safari concludes.
